Hello all,

Please distribute this announcement. I apologize for any cross-listing.

Postdoctoral Researcher in Biogenic Secondary Organic Aerosol Studies
at the University of California Irvine, Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology
Closing date: August 1st, 2017.
The University of California, Irvine is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer advancing inclusive excellence. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, or other protected categories covered by the UC nondiscrimination policy.
Project description
Most secondary organic aerosol (SOA) in the atmosphere is formed from plant volatile emissions. Global change is altering the environmental factors that regulate plant volatile emission rates. This research investigates the biological production and release, atmospheric chemistry, and eventual fate of plant volatile emissions, and how all these components are evolving in a changing climate. The postdoctoral researcher will conduct laboratory experiments investigating SOA generation from the oxidation of real plant volatile emissions in an oxidation flow reactor. Plant volatile emissions, SOA production, and SOA composition will be characterized from a variety of plant functional types under different environmental conditions.
Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a doctoral degree from an accredited U.S. institution or equivalent degree from another country. The qualifying applicant should hold a doctoral degree in the fields of atmospheric science, atmospheric chemistry, atmospheric physics or a related field. Prior experience with mass spectrometers and SOA generation experiments are considered a benefit. The applicant should be skilled at working on collaborative research projects and producing peer-reviewed publications. Excellent communications skills in English are required.
Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for one year, with the possibility of extension for an additional year. Start date is negotiable.
